What’s been happening?

It’s only been about 6 months since my last blog but hey what the heck I’m no blogger lol….Thought that I should fill you in on a couple of things happening at Grubby HQ.

I have welcomed my new range of Designer 100% Cotton pieces and they are doing extremely well. It fulfills a side of my personality that has been in deep slumber for many years..retro/vintage design both with stunning, unusual fabrics and uncommon styles. The practicality of my shorts and sneaker wearing life has finally given way to stuff more pretty…well at least for your kids lol. I don’t handmake the garments myself….I do sew (the last thing I sewed was my wedding dress) but with kids, house, biz etc I just can’t be (fill in the blank) lol . A very good friend of mine sews all my garments locally in Sandgate and I do the final embellishments of labels, buttons and bows.

My Australian Merino range has now welcomed our Toddler Lounge-Wear and soon to be released Merino Baby Wraps/Swaddles, which had a rave review from our tester…just need to get the photos and copy done and voila they will be on the website. I would like to take the opportunity to point out that both my Merino fabrics and garments are ALL made here in Australia. It is very important to me that my Australian Merino fabrics are NOT imported from China.

I would also like to announce my new shop on Bluecaravan; a gorgeous marketplace full of contemporary handmade, fair trade & ethical products by independent designers, artists and artisans. I will be using this wonderful medium to showcase some of my favourite pieces, especially my One-of-a-Kind garments. You can find my shop here: http://www.bluecaravan.net/wwolgrub/

Some of my yummy 100% Cotton Designer Fabrics.

Thanks for all your help and continued support guys…I really appreciate it!

Have a fab week all :)

Cheers, Lou.

Things I love: FOOD!!!

Ahhh food, glorious food! I love it!

Many years ago the love affair cost me dearly and I am now a healthy 20 odd kilos lighter than when I finished high school. Pregnancy scared the beejeebers out of me with the horror stories of putting on a lot of weight and then struggling to lose it. The visions of my youth caused me to go a little crazy and I was a one woman mission to not ‘go there’ again. I walked and walked and walked during and after having my first kid. I then got addicted to riding my bike with said kiddo on the back even right up to the day before I had kid #2. Yes people said I was crazy but I didn’t mind. Now #2 is on the back of my bike and we go everywhere…even if it is a 1/2 hr ride! Ps I don’t drive so I don’t have a choice…but I like it that way…doing my bit for the environment and to maintain some kind of a figure.

Riding my bike means that I can still do naughty things like eat the crispy skin off a roast chook, pork crackle, pate, cheese, the bubbly fatty bits on barbecued lamb chops or steak, drink plenty of beer (man I love beer, yes I’ll blog on this one too eventually lol) and eating the meat, skin and fat in one of my favourite Chinese dishes that we are having for tea tonight…Braised Pork Belly with a few Asian greens for good measure and Basmati Rice, coz it’s low GI.

Chinese Braised Pork Belly:

800g Pork belly or rashers (about 12 chunky pieces)

400ml beef stock

5 tbls soy sauce

Finely grated rind and juice of 1 large orange

1 tbls fresh grated root ginger

2 garlic cloves finely sliced

1 sml red chilli finely chopped

1 tbls sugar

3 cinnamon sticks

3 cloves

4-5 star anise

Place all ingredients in a deep pot. Bring to the boil, reduce to a simmer and cover with lid. Cook for 1 1/2 hrs.

Remove lid and simmer till sauce is well reduced but still plentiful…about 30 – 45 mins.

Serve with steamed Asian greens and rice with lashings of the delicious sauce.

Enjoy!

Cheers, Lou.

Ok, so now I have a Blog.

Ahh my blog…I never wanted a blog but there you go…now I have one.

I am not a writer nor am I funny or witty. I have knowledge but am no encyclopedia. I have a family…but don’t we all. I am ‘green’ but am certainly no saint.  I am definitely NOT stylish. And finally, yes I too am a stay at home mum that runs their own business…but I know plenty of them! And that’s why I never wanted to ‘Blog’. I, in my opinion, am nothing special and I know that blogs are a dime a dozen.. so why should I blog? Well like everything else to me (bar my family, friends and business) it’s just a bit of fun.

I’m not going to bombard you with opinions, tips or hints on what you should or shouldn’t be doing with your life, with your family, with the environment, with whatever. But I am just gonna talk like I’m doing now, post some pics, music, things I like and things I don’t like and maybe a bit or two about me and my life.

So thank you for listening and I hope you enjoy my little ramblings.

And in the words of a dear friend of mine, now I shall…Blog, Blog, Bloggity Blog.

Cheers, Lou.
